    E156 - Indigo's Hour Straight Bourbon Whiskey

Orphan Barrel whiskeys have been around since 2014. As the story goes, each bottle in this series represents stocks of whiskey that were hidden away and nearly forgotten in the back of rickhouses and distilleries. The newest release in the Orphan Barrel series is Indigo's Hour Straight Bourbon Whiskey. This is a blend of straights from Kentucky and Indiana that is 18 years old and has a mashbill of 68% corn, 28% rye, and 4% malted barley. If you've never had any Orphan Barrel offerings, you'll find this week's discussion rather intriguing. If you have had some of the previous offerings, you'll be delighted to know that we give our take on where we think this one stacks up against some of the older releases. Join us this week as we talk about the rise of nonalcoholic beverages, an overload of Jet's Pizza, and of course this new bourbon whiskey. Oh Yeah!

    E155 - Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond 13 Year (VVS 2024)

    E155 - Old Fitzgerald Bottled-In-Bond 13 Year (VVS 2024)

To commemorate the 25th anniversary of acquiring the famed Bernheim Distillery and the Old Fitzgerald brand, Heaven Hill went deep into the "tanks" and bottled a very special bourbon. Distilled in 1999 and aged for 13 years, this VVS (very very special) Old Fitzgerald Bottled-in-Bond decanter contains the very juice that Heaven Hill deemed as exceptional all the way back in 2012. It's a modern day dusty of sorts! If you listened to episode 120 (and we highly recommend that you do), you heard us talking what we thought might become of the famed Old Fitzgerald Decanter Series, but none of us saw this release coming. Do we think it's as exceptional as the distillery employees thought more than 10 years ago? How does it compare to other favorites of ours in the series? This episode is full of surprises that you won't want to miss. As always, we give our collective honest opinions of this extremely new and rare release from Heaven Hill.

    E154 - Campari's Whiskey Barons Collection

    E154 - Campari's Whiskey Barons Collection

When a listener asks you to review a bottle...you don't just review that bottle...you review the entire vertical plus one more blind. Lol. This week, we dive into Campari's Whiskey Barons Collection which features, Bond & Lillard, Old Ripy, and W.B. Saffell. These 375ml bottles have been released since 2017, but can still be found in some markets. Even though these bottles are billed as coming from the American Medicinal Spirits Company, they are actually Wild Turkey distillate. They honor the traditions of the early whiskey distillers in Anderson County. But, how do they taste? We were only asked to review W.B. Saffell, but we give you perspective on each bottle. Do our thoughts on each bottle match yours? We'd love to hear what you think. Most of the conversation for this week is focused on the blinds, but we also talk about a near miss at Keeneland and something we've noticed about bourbon distribution in our old Kentucky home.

The brand promises an experience that is anything but ordinary. So what exactly does that mean? Join us this week as we welcome The Bourbon Swami/Chief Alchemist/President of Dark Arts, Mr. Macaulay Minton. This conversation is a lengthy one, but we promise it is worth it. You'll get to hear about how Macaulay got his start in the industry and his vision for the Dark Arts Whiskey House. Only in operation for a little over a year, Dark Arts is already making waves with their three core products and a variety of other delicious and unique whiskeys. E152 - OCD #5 Bourbon

    E152 - OCD #5 Bourbon

OCD stands for Old Crow Distillery and #5 is an ode to the fermentation tanks on this hallowed property where something historic was found. Glenns Creek Distillery sits on the same property as the original Old Crow Distillery. While they offer a number of different products, the one we are tasting and reviewing this week, OCD #5, has a unique story behind it. This high corn bourbon mashbill is distilled using yeast resurrected from one of the fermentation tanks at the old distillery. It isn't every day that you get a chance to taste a piece of modern history. Join us this week as we talk about old department stores, barrel picks, Facebook, and Zuckerbirds. Will OCD #5 make us want to head to Glenns Creek Distillery in Frankfort, KY immediately or will we be left wishing that the old distillery was still in operation?

    E151 - New Riff 8 Year Bourbon

    E151 - New Riff 8 Year Bourbon

This is a moment we've been waiting for since 2014. Just a few episodes back, we tasted and reviewed some of the oldest rye to ever be released by the New Riff Distillery. For this week, we turn our attention to the newly released New Riff 8 Year Old Bourbon. As we all know, it takes time to make good bourbon. Since 2018, New Riff has only released 4-5 year old bourbon. We've been clamoring for older stuff for YEARS! Was it worth the wait? You'll have to listen to find out. Prepare yourselves as Kenny pulls what might be the most epic curveball in the history of the the mash up. You'll be laughing all the way to Newport and back.

Chateau Wham Dram ,

Long time listener

For authenticity purposes this review isn’t all about Mr. Kenny Mills…. I couldn’t find Dads drinking bourbon anymore, so I had to find a filler for the spot and I landed on The Mash Up. I’m just kidding you guys were always in my rotation…. You had me at Hellooooooooooooooooooo and welcome. Kenny does bring a hilarious Kenny Powers angle to the show, with the trust me you don’t want to interview with us, it’s not going to go well for you. You guys get a 5 ⭐️ out me for your honest takes, and hilarious banter, with suspenseful blinds that have me on the edge of my seat. All I ask is that you give my homies The Bourbon Hunters podcast a 5 ⭐️ review in return. Come hang out with us in December at the Woodford Hotel during our annual bourbon blitz. Cheers fellas Sincerely your podcasting friend, JD Fritzges

Kenny Mills Magic

Listener for about a year and a half. I have to say that the addition of Kenny Mills aka Kenny Thrills aka The Stiff-Nipped Wonder aka The Double Blind Bambino has made this show even better. The blinds give a point of reference on pours and make each and every episode relevant, regardless of whether or not the bottle being reviewed seems like something I would be into on the surface. It’s also created pretty stunning moments such as: 1924 beating a Birthday, Remus Gatsby over Michter’s 10, and let us not forget Kenny’s Nostradamus moment guessing the three pours in front of him.

You guys rock. This show rocks.

Look forward to every Friday!

Love the show guys, keep up the great podcast and keep the entertaining reviews coming! Still looking forward the top 40 list to publish somewhere!
