The Victoria Day long weekend is traditionally viewed as the unofficial start of summer - and for many it is - but for the London Health Sciences Centre it can be the start of something completely different. The May 2-4 long weekend serves as the start of the summer trauma season. Around two thirds of serious trauma cases are seen in the emergency room from May to September. Last year, there were over 550 serious trauma cases at the LHSC, which is around a 20 per cent increase from 2022. 

The Ontario government has told child-care centres that it will implement a new way of funding the national 10-dollar-a-day program starting next year. The change was relayed in a memo to child-care centres last week. While the focus is on the provincial government, what about the federal government? Have they set up a system that can work?

Could this be the last year for the Children's Festival in downtown London? The organizer says it could be. Doug Hillier says the festival could end after this year if city hall doesn't change its stance on a policy barring amusement park style rides from being operated at Victoria Park.

Alice Munro died this week at the age of 92, leaving behind an incredible legacy. Munro was born in Wingham and lived in Clinton for many years and often used southwestern Ontario as inspiration for her short stories.
