“Dear Newsagents. I have been listening to you for a long time, since you were running your BBC podcasts. I appreciate that since you left the BBC the shackles are to some extent off and you are able to express your more left leaning views. All that is fine. However, you seem to have bought in 100% to the narrative (promoted by Iran and embraced in the west by many Jew haters, not least those on the left) that Israel is not (a) on the side of right, and (b) on the frontline of the war against Islamic extremism, and doing the West’s job right now, on multiple fronts. So, apart from the horrors that Israel suffered on 10/7 of last year, they have also experienced almost continuous bombardments since that time, from Hezbollah at their northern border with Lebanon. This has barely made international press, and from memory has barely been discussed on the Newsagents. So by contrast, the fact that you choose to headline this episode to imply that now it’s Israel, in its targeted response to Hezbollah in the last 2 days, that has breached international law is frankly shocking and shameful. Shame on all of you who seem to have taken the easy line not to challenge the disgusting behaviour of so many of Israel’s neighbours and enemies. Whatever you may think of the current political regime in that country, it is nonetheless a democratically elected government (unique in the Middle East), and conducting its activities in Gaza and elsewhere with the most careful approach to civilian casualties imaginable. Another regime in Israel would have responded to 10/7 in a very similar way. This targeted attack on Hezbollah terrorists has resulted in minimal loss of life and injury to non combatants. You should be celebrating their actions and thanking their focus and dedication. Ultimately, if you can not start to criticise radical and aggressive Islam in the UK and beyond for what it is, and call it out without fear of being described as Islamaphobic, then you will see the likes of those terrorist groups that surround Israel starting to make their presence felt in the UK too. Yours. Joel Steinhart, London”
