Generally engrossing, but uneven quality
This is worth a listen if you want to pass the time with stories that are reliably spooky, if not so reliably well-written. Funny sophomoric comedic relief is mixed in with lame sophomoric comic relief. Insightful explorations of timely issues are often side by side with boring politically correct attempts to be “relevant.” A good example of this is the uneven first episode of The New Decayed. The first story is wonderfully written and performed. The conceit of having addiction being a motley crew of ghosts is nearly perfect. The second episode is less well-written, but still works as body horror. The third episode, despite all the knowing asides, really is whiny. It’s constantly reaching for pathos but the chatty writing just can’t achieve the impact desired. It’s less a story that should be published than a caption on an Instagram mom’s post.
