Have you ever found yourself in hot water ‘playing it straight’? Ever fallen in love with a gay person without realising it? Hear the other side of the story on The One That A Got A Gay as we explore the lives of gay, lesbian and other LGBTQ+ people who spent years ‘playing straight’ only to turn their lives upside down by coming out later in life. Statistics show the average age at which people come out is now 17. TOTGAG explores why there are so many people of that generation still coming out well in to their 20s, 30s and sometimes even later and how having to play straight has influenced them and the people around them. Each week, Emily and Alex delve in to a different person’s coming out story to understand the impact of being LGBTQ+ in a straight world and what they’ve learnt from years of being in the closet. Expect laughs, sobs and some great/terrible advice from our co-hosts and some compelling stories from our brave and wonderful guests.

#10 - Lord Ivar Mountbatten: I just buried it.

Fix up, look sharp listeners, we have (extended) royalty in the house! 👑  This week we are joined by the charming and wonderfully candid Lord Ivar Mountbatten, first cousin once removed to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh and third cousin one removed to Her Majesty The Queen. 💂🏻‍♂️
As the only openly-gay member of the extended royal family, Ivar shares an entirely unique perspective on what it is like to be gay in 21st century Britain. From Gordonstoun (posh!) to Bridwell Park (his country estate), Ivar talks to us about his experience of being gay in the aristocracy, the role his former wife played in helping him to live his truth and the advice he has for people of his generation struggling with their own sexuality. 🏳️‍🌈
What a guy, and what a privilege to spend some time with him. Thank you Ivar! ✨

Professional nosebleed faker and ABC News Foreign Correspondent James Longman joins us this week, live from his bed in Delhi!

Inviting In

Our individual process of coming out, or inviting others in, is the tie that binds us together as a community. The process starts with a reveal and admission to ourselves before inviting others in to experience our true self. While I don’t know everyone who recorded a story, they all include feelings and sensations to which I can relate. I’ve always been intrigued by our stories (I waited until 35), and now I get to listen to them. A well-done conversation hosted by two who take care to allow room for sharing, while balancing careful questions. A great listen each time. Thanks.

Stellar podcast that enlightens the LGBTQ+ people and Allies

A great podcast that just gives those warm and relaxing moments of reflection. It channels one’s own experience and allows one to really empathize with the stories of others who have been featured on the show. I have learned so much and it’s a podcast that I look forward to listening weekly. Truly one of the best LGBTQ+ podcasts of this year, AND it should be highly recommended for anyone who wants to learn how to be a great ally. Hearing these episodes should hopefully inspire others to support those who are navigating their own coming out journey.
