Lifechangingly Queer
You know, one of my favorite thing about The Penumbra is that even though many characters have a lot of pent-up angst and suppressed feelings and abusive pasts, none of it is ever because of their queerness. Very nearly every character introduced so far has been queer (and, I believe, every character in the Juno Steel 'verse), but there has been absolutely no homophobia, transphobia, or LGBTQIA-bashing of any kind. I have been blown away by how well-written and fresh and interesting every episode is while simultaneously being very casual about the queerness of its characters. There is one episode where a woman hesitates to leave her fiancée for a dashing wlw robber who adopts orphans (Ep. 6, The Coyote of the Painted Plains), but I'm pretty sure that was more about Chance being a train robber than anything. Anyways, The Penumbra Podcast is so, so good, and y'all need to treat yourselves by diving headfirst into the grandest hotel this side of nowhere.Read full review »
