I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. I guess it was all the behind-the-scenes crap that made it a flop. This podcast was very enlightening.

The voiceovers are well-written, informative, and voiced with great intimacy in a delivery that is disarming, comfortable. Also, the editorial choices; doesn’t sugarcoat the losses and hilite only the wins, instead invites honesty and different perspectives. Great storytelling, congrats to the...Read full review »

Really love this podcast! The first season was a great deep dive on a great director and his unique story. Loving the second season too! Didn’t know what to expect with the format change but still enjoying it!

Compelling behind-the-scenes interviews and revealing factoids about just how hard it is to make a movie. But, for the love of God, please tell the hostess that the airplane is called a con-cord, not a con-quered :)

Wow
I grew up with TCM as a defining factor in my life, and this podcast is outstanding. What an interesting character study of Bogdanovich season 1, and the details to how Bonfire crashed and burned is fascinating. Cannot wait till season 3!

Loved the book, and (now that I have this amazing inside story) I want to see the movie again. Or maybe just listen to this podcast again. Can’t wait for the next episodes.

I’m a big film person, and this podcast definitely delivers on the Hollywood know-all I craved. But you don’t have to be a cinema fanatic to love it.(my family listened together and they also liked.) It’s accessible, fun, and well structured. Can’t wait for the rest.

Stumbled on this podcast a few weeks ago. Listened to the first season about the career of Peter Bogdonovich and it’s wonderful. Be sure to listen to the bonus episodes with old interviews Peter B. did with Howard Hawks, Hitchcock, John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, and Henry Fonda. Would like to hear...Read full review »

Great story, deft production, and I love Julie Salamon’s voice and delivery. You’re wonderful, Julie!

I found season 1 really interesting and easy to follow. And, I was excited to get a glimpse at how Bonfire of the Vanities turned into such a stinker of a movie. I’ve listened to 3 episodes so far and am (somewhat) patiently waiting to understand how Bonfire’s creation process deviated from...Read full review »

Julie Salamon’s book on this subject is terrific and I recommend it to everybody. Her podcast version of the same story is also great—you get to hear the actual voices of the players, famous and behind-the-scenes. The podcast is compelling and, like the book, never takes joy in what would become...Read full review »

This was a great book, but listening to the original audio recordings is even better. A great experience.

I’ve never heard a podcast with this many major names caught on tape telling an incredible story! Tom Wolfe plus Julie plus Brian DePalma equals perfection

The making of Bonfire sounds fascinating but with all due respect, Julie Salomon does not have a pleasant voice. I could not continue listening. I’m sorry.

Season 1 was outstanding, but Season 2 is disappointing. Julie’s voice is like fingers on a chalkboard. While the subject matter is interesting, it is not well organized and her voice is so distracting, that I don’t think I can listen to the rest of the season.

Solomon is as badly cast as Hanks. Her voice is like nails on a chalkboard. Who approved this?

When I read The bonfire of the vanities I was so excited to hear a movie was being made. However when I saw who was cast as the characters in the movie I knew it was going to be a disaster. However I had to see the movie and I’ve seen it many times since. Really looking forward to this podcast...Read full review »

I was a bit surprised at how impatiently I had been looking forward to the second season. S2E1 tells me this will be an engrossing series. I am somewhat disappointed Ben M. is not narrating. But as this is Julie Salamon’s tale to tell I understand the decision.

I understand you want to give background information & set the story up for people, but my god, this is all over the place. The woman’s voice is no help; I want to turn it off. I’m sure(hoping) it gets better as the serie goes on.

The podcast is fascinating to me but not for the reasons I expected. It was quite sad to see a man capable of showing and dealing with his characters’ obsessions and needs and yet so unaware of his own. The addiction (if you’ll excuse a trendy term) to youthful beauty is a long known element in...Read full review »

Is wonderful. Riveting. I can’t wait to hear what happens next!! I am especially impressed with Julie, who I’m rooting for in the past and the present. Watching today a wonderful series of Alfred Hitchcock films and as I was walking my dog this evening, listened to an podcast episode of Peter Bogdanovitch interviewing Alfred Hitchcock! Just love the synchronicity of this tonight! Ok, back to Vertigo. Love this podcast!

It took me a long time to listen to TCM’s first I-Pod Series, and I truly found every episode incredibly interesting. I have become addicted to watching TCM so often that it’s taken me months to carve out the time for the I-Pod series. I’m so glad I did! Great job TCM!!!! Marina Layne.

The subject of this season of “the plot thickens” Is the legendary Hollywood director Peter Bogdanovich. One way you know he is a legend is Siri knows how to spell his name. Ben Mankiewicz does a great job putting it all together. First podcast I can’t put down and have to keep listening.
