“In 2018, I started working in the outdoor industry. I’ve had lots of varied work experiences over my career and although skiing is in my DNA and I really didn’t know much about the mechanics of the industry- despite having magazine cut outs of the all the greats on my walls as a teenager.
For further context, I wasn’t big into social media either - actually I remember one of the first conversations I had with a marketing manager for one of the brands and they used the term IG - I had to ask them what they meant.
Anyways, it wasn’t long until I discovered The Powell Movement and I can tell you it’s the best window into the outdoor industry - past and present. Mike interviews the people who have shaped the sector and asks the questions we all want to hear (and that I needed to know): how much do athletes make, how do contracts work, who are the movers and shakers etc. The balance of having athletes and industry professionals is unique and really insightful.
I can honestly say that The Powell Movement was my primary orientation course to the outdoor industry and I was a better person and employee because of it. Thank you Mike for creating this space and resource!”
