One of my favourite podcasts, and James does a great job linking historical events to current doctrine. Great that it also covers all three services.

As a civilian-military science fiction writer and amateur military historian, this podcast has been invaluable in distilling how countries integrate and utilise various tactical and operational fighting philosophies which have already been crucial in helping refine and define the fictional...Read full review »

Although it is designed for professional military people (and I am 100% civilian, not even remotely linked to the military) I find this podcast very interesting and educational. Already after listening to few episodes I realized how much knowledge and training goes into military planning and...Read full review »

Great insight on strategy. Most recent is China’s deception in The Korean War and current PLA deception tactics.

Fascinating, knowledgeable and informative. Using historical data to inform our future strategy / planning needs to be mandatory. Yet somehow we learn but don’t enact. Politics no doubt plays a bigger part in all that though Superb series. I often replay episodes to glean everything I can

As a former ARes Staff Cadet I find this whole podcast incredibly interesting and full of very practical information. In particular the series on Long Tan with Dave Sabben is brilliant! Dave’s account is incredibly detailed, insightful and still absolutely relevant to 21st century war fighting.

I’m an infantry battalion commander in the US Army and I listen to this program religiously. I think it’s great - a little story telling, a little doctrine, and a bunch of lessons that are good discussion points with my commanders and staff officers. I really liked the episodes on tactical...Read full review »

I’ve never been in the army and never will be. But I love military history and if you do too then this podcast is for you. Great detail from a knowledgeable host and good production too.

Superbly researched. Presented without any drum banging or chest pumping. Objective and immensely interesting. This is what Podcasts were built for: fascinating material beyond the interest of mainstream media. We at aircrewrembered.com found the air material particularly interesting.

Was stoked to hear this episode, great to hear AirPower in these podcasts. I was fortunate to be involved in the re-identification of relics at the PNG museum of modern history in Port Moresby ( before it moved to the new location). Not what I’d expect army to produce! A professionally developed, highly engaging podcast series that blends interesting but little known military campaigns with the principles of war.

I’ve listened to all the Long Tan episodes with Dave Sabben. They are excellent insights into not just the battle, but the overall situation encountered by 6RAR in Vietnam.

Outstanding work! I’m no longer in the military, but I’m still drawing lessons from your podcast that I can apply to my current job as a police officer in the US. Great podcast. It fills a gap in military history podcasts. It provides a unique blend of history and doctrine with an emphasis on Australia. As a Canadian, whose role in World War Two is often ignored I appreciate any information about Commonwealth military forces. Well done.

Thank you Dave Sabben. To move theory and sound bite retelling into a minute by minute overview is most enlightening. To listen to the matter of fact presentation is most humbling too. Real people doing a job at great cost to themselves and for which we should be grateful.

The opening for every episode explains that the podcast is intended as a teaching tool for junior officers and NCOs in the Australian military, but I must say: as an American non-combatant, I find the show an interesting glimpse into the thought process and mechanics behind military planning. This podcast does an excellent job of explaining the principles of war by providing real-world examples from history. The series on the Malaya/Singapore campaign from WW2 was great and I would love to see more series on other historical battles.
