42: Embracing Difference & The Power Of Allyship With Char Bailey

42: Embracing Difference & The Power Of Allyship With Char Bailey

This episode is one I’m so excited to be sharing with you. I’ve wanted to get my guest, Char Bailey, on the podcast for quite some time!
Char is such an inspiration and an incredible role model – in our conversation she shares her experience as a woman of colour who is also a lesbian and autistic and how she brings together her skills, experience and knowledge to help people reflect on everything they have inside themselves and live authentically.

Char's a life coach and NLP practitioner who studies spirituality, reiki and breathwork.  We talk about the power of owning our identity and the importance of visibility and how this helps others to feel safe and confident to show up as their true, unique, authentic selves.
And we dive deep into allyship - the harm caused by the assumptions people make about race, sexuality, autism and other marginalisation’s and some of the biggest challenges of overcoming bias and discrimination.  And why, when there’s still over 70 countries in the world where being gay is a crime and people are being killed for their existence that allies are so, so fricking important.
So please listen in and listen well.
This is such a valuable, open and enlightening episode.
I really hope you take away something new to reflect on and help you on your personal development journey both as an individual and an ally.

40: Beyond He & She: Giving A Shit About Gender Inclusion

40: Beyond He & She: Giving A Shit About Gender Inclusion

If we want to be inclusive in our business we must understand gender identity and the importance of using pronouns for people in the LGBTQIA+ community.
Understanding and caring about these things is at the heart of  creating safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces for everyone.  Yet many people struggle to know how to create environments where all genders and people who use different pronouns feel accepted and included.
To help you with this I’m giving you 10 action steps that will help you feel more confident and better equipped to share your own pronouns, invite others to share theirs and navigate  conversations that call out discrimination and create greater equality for LGBTQIA+ people.
Please share this podcast episode with family, loved ones, friends and maybe even random people that you meet.

Be the super ally you want to be!

    39: Homophobia And Me

    39: Homophobia And Me

Before I even knew I was gay I experienced homophobia.
Both within myself (internalised homophobia) and from the outside world.
Todays solo podcast episode is a journey through my own personal experiences of what it’s like being a gay woman who came out at 30, over two decades ago.
I’m sharing my story of denying and repressing my sexuality for a very long time and the struggles I had to accept that I was gay, as well as some of the homophobia I've experienced against me.
My hope is that this episode will help anyone who is struggling with their sexuality right now to know that you are not alone and that even though it can be a frightening, isolating and confusing journey it is absolutely 100% possible for you to feel proud of who you are and love and accept all of who you are.
I promise that every one of you listening is as worthy, as loveable and as deserving as everyone else in this world.
If you’re questioning your sexuality, struggling with coming out or fully loving and accepting all of your amazing, beautiful self then I am always here for you. Drop me a DM over on Instagram or email me.

38: How To Uplevel Your LGBTQ+ Allyship

38: How To Uplevel Your LGBTQ+ Allyship

This weeks podcast episode is a solo one from me about a topic that I’m extremely passionate about!
Those of you who have been listening to the podcast from the beginning may remember that I’ve spoken about allies and allyship before in Episode 2 when I talk about the top 10 things you can do to be a great ally.
Today I am taking LGBTQ+ allyship to whole different level!
The way I like to look at allyship is as though it’s a journey, a spectrum that’s broken down into 3 steps with each step building on the next:
The New Ally – New allies want to learn more about the issues that affect the LGBTQ+ community and they want to get comfortable with speaking up and standing for LGBTQ+ people. They’re supportive but not always sure what to do or how to do it.
The Everyday Ally – Everyday allies have learned a lot about LGBTQ+ challenges and struggles. They take action when they hear or see something inappropriate or discriminatory. They’re also committed to continuing to learn and seek out opportunities to be a more effective ally and support their LGBTQ+ friends, family, clients and communities.
The Super Ally – Super Allies are powerful advocates for change. They find ways to support LGBTQ+ organisations, be an active part of creating change socially, personally and sometimes politically too. They don’t shy away from debate and they uplift queer voices.
Listen in to learn about my  top three actions for you whichever level of allyship you are currently at and to hear my reflections on the reasons why allyship is more important now than ever before.

Insightful, educational...a guiding force

I just finished listening to your Podcasts and wow I’ve just got to say how excited I am that you have decided to be a guiding force for those of us in the LGBT+ community!!
Your voice and your passion is so vital to continue to be a beacon of information and to shed light on those incredibly important and vital issues that impact the LGBT+ community.
Thank you Sarah! I eagerly anticipate your next episode!!

Jadynn Ann ,

An essential resource for the LGBT+ community!

Wowee!! I just finished the very first episode of this amazing podcast. Although I have too many thoughts to list here, I’d like to focus on two particular ones; Authenticity and Maverick. You see, both are critical. If Sarah was Authentic but not a Maverick, she would fade into oblivion because she would be sharing her personal opinion in support of the LGBT+ community, but her it would be noise in an already red ocean of LGBT+ podcasts and resources. If she was a Maverick, but not Authentic, she wouldn’t be able to lead the very cause that she is so passionate about because she wouldn’t resonate with anyone. It will take a fine line of both for her to be able to pull off a “North Star” podcast within this community and I believe that Sarah is the one to lead it!! Thank You for everything that you are doing and have planned. Be the light!! Be our “North Star”!!🙏🏼❤️
