“I may have given this episode - highlighting the revelations about Rose’s gambling - five stars, but instead, ‘must score an error on the writer of the episode in relation to the reference to George Foster in the initial minute. First, despite what was said (by the marvellous narrator, Jon Wertheim) Foster wasn’t a member of the Reds, yet, when the story begins at the Red’s training camp in 1971. Foster joined the Reds after the regular season in 1971 started. Cincinnati acquired him from the Giants when his statue was that of a fourth outfielder. The writer also says that Foster was a centre fielder. ‘Not true. He was a left fielder.
I enjoyed the earlier episode about Jordan’s surprise retirement announcement as the show was able to tap into the insight of the fabulous Jack McCallum. On the other hand, ‘did think that the person who interviewed him was slightly in over her head.
