“Very sorry not to hear Robert Peston take Truss to task on the rubbish she was spouting but rather agree with her. She literally said it wasn’t her fault that she didn’t understand LDIs and the impact her policies would have and it was all down to what the BoE were doing the day before her disastrous mini budget. The world knew QE was being reversed and she might not have understood LDIs, but it was her job to investigate and understand all the implications of her policies or employ experts that could explain the consequences to her. Instead she and Kwarteng ploughed on whilst ignoring calls for scrutiny from the OBR. Shame on you. Other than this I’ve found the podcast to be interesting enough.
Another strange choice of guest with Dominic Johnson. A fund manager of a poor performing investment fund that had to fold when St James’s Place realised they had to serve their customers and not their shareholders. He goes on to demonstrate his lack of investment knowledge by talking about the FTSE 100 as a proxy for the UK. An index that derives a huge proportion of its income from outside the UK with the top 10 constituents deriving about 90% from outside. Given it’s a weighted index that is significant. I was looking forward to hearing the Brexit benefits but I must have missed that part. I’m not being cynical, I’m sure there are some but what were they? The one part where he did make sense is the idea of removing regulation on products from like-minded countries.
It would be good if you talked to people that know what they’re talking about from the world of economics and investing, not these politicians with little clue and their own agenda.”
