Using a Child Led Approach for Potty Learning (Training)

Using a Child Led Approach for Potty Learning (Training)

Today I want to chat about something that isn’t directly related to sleep, but is something that I often get asked about – potty training. However, I like to call it potty learning because it is possible to use a child led approach. I don’t like the term “training” whether we’re talking about sleep or using the bathroom because we shouldn’t have to train our kids to do anything. In my point of view, it’s cold and dehumanizing. Our children already know how to go to the bathroom, we just have to let them get comfortable with the new experience of using the toilet instead of a diaper. Just like with sleep, our kids will learn how to use the bathroom in their own unique timing (sans any developmental delays), but we have to give them the time and space to do so. Tune into this episode to learn how!

How to Lessen the Mental Load in Motherhood

How to Lessen the Mental Load in Motherhood

We live in a society that really glorifies the martyrdom of motherhood, but we don’t often talk about the mental load that comes with this and the challenges that it can create on the mother and within the partnership. This is something that I’ve personally been struggling with the past few months as I’ve taken on the majority of the parenting role, which means I’ve been able to practice what I’m trying to “preach” in this episode recently. We believe that as moms, we have to do it all, but this is just not the case. So join me as I share practical steps you can take to lean on your spouse, your co-parent, or others in your village. Motherhood is one of the hardest jobs, but what if we could make it just a little bit easier?

Social Media is Fake… Podcast Edition

Social Media is Fake… Podcast Edition

Have you been loving the trend on Instagram and TikTok that starts with the prompt, “Social media is fake, here’s X number of things that are true…”? I’ve seen hundreds of women and moms get really vulnerable about a few things they’re currently struggling with and it’s been so powerful. A few weeks ago I posted my own version of this on a few Instagram story slides and I received an overwhelming amount of really positive feedback, so much so that I knew I needed to bring it to the podcast. So today on the show, I want to dig deeper on a few things that I struggle with daily with the hopes that you don’t feel alone. I also want this episode to serve as a reminder that it doesn’t matter how real a person is on social media, you’re still not seeing their whole lives. Listen in, let me know which truth you’re resonating with!

What Gentle Parenting Is (and Isn’t) with Cassie Gudmundson

What Gentle Parenting Is (and Isn’t) with Cassie Gudmundson

I’m so excited to sit down with my friend and parenting coach Cassie Gudmundson and chat all about navigating toddler tantrums, regulating your nervous system, and setting boundaries that help you become a better mom. When people hear the phrase “gentle parenting,” many assume that it means allowing your kids to walk all over you without enforcing any boundaries or rules. The truth is, being a gentle parent means that you have to find the delicate balance between being empathetic to your toddler’s feelings and staying a strong leader who upholds boundaries. This becomes especially challenging when your toddler has a tantrum or when you’re dealing with other frustrating situations (*cue in mom rage*). Cassie and I give practical tips on how to handle these situations, build a parenting relationship rooted in love and trust, and, most importantly, embrace the fact that not every detail is going to be perfect!

    Answering Your Toddler Sleep FAQs

    Answering Your Toddler Sleep FAQs

In celebration of launching my toddler sleep course, I wanted to chat a little bit more about toddler sleep today and the most common questions I get asked from my community. My hope is that talking about toddler sleep more and more will normalize the fact that it is biologically normal for 12 months - 4 year olds to still be waking at night. But with that, I know toddler sleep can feel really hard, but I don't want it to be harder than it already is, especially while raising a toddler – we're already dealing with their development and their counter will and the big emotions and the tantrums. I don't want you to also have to be dealing with really big sleep disruptions. So if you're at a place where sleep doesn't feel sustainable, this episode is for you.
If you have a child 12 months to 4 years of age, I highly recommend checking out my Rested Toddler sleep course. It is a comprehensive, 12 month to four year sleep course that gives you all of the tools, education and resources that you need to confidently and easily navigate toddler sleep. Learn more here.

Breaking Down Toddler Sleep Training BS

Breaking Down Toddler Sleep Training BS

Trigger warning, I’ll get a little spicy in this episode of Resting in Motherhood as I debunk common toddler sleep myths. As I was working on my upcoming toddler course, I asked my community about toddler sleep advice that they’ve gotten that just didn’t feel right. I received an overwhelming response and narrowed it down to a few main topics that I will discuss (and refute) in this podcast episode. If you’ve ever been told to lock your toddler in their room or leave them to cry it out, I’ll explain exactly why these “methods” are extremely detrimental to your child’s development and what to do instead. The truth is, your toddler is not crying to manipulate you. Co-sleeping doesn’t make children clingy and overly dependent - it actually does the complete opposite. And, most importantly, you CAN make successful sleep changes in loving and gentle ways that are not rooted in separation and unresponsiveness.

If you want to learn more about making positive sleep changes, I’m on the cusp of launching my toddler sleep course on April 4th. You can get on the waitlist to learn more here. By joining the waitlist, you're getting $50 off and also the chance to join a live toddler sleep Q&A call with me. Only the first 25 purchasers are getting access to the Q&A because I want to keep it small and intimate so that I can answer all of your questions. Join today!
