“Knowing BS, this podcast has a lot of potential and will be good at some point - that’s why I gave it 2 stars instead of the 1 it genuinely deserves. With that said, the current catalog has been lacking. I’m writing this review in the middle of the NBA Conference Finals, a time you’d expect would be a gold mine for NBA-specific podcasters. But since it’s launch last month the episodes have been infrequent, and those that have been put out are not the quality I’ve come to expect from Simmons (2 “Sources Say” which I guess some people might like but it’s really just two TV critics trolling NBA social media pages, 2 “emergency” pods about teams not in the playoffs that were admittedly put together w/o much care, and a pod focused on the draft lottery). That leaves 2 total pods in a month about the playoffs during the playoffs.
I get that Bill and the Ringer are probably super busy right now. New show on HBO, new website, a bunch of other pods which are quite good if you’re into the subject matter. They need someone own this thing and I’m guessing that search is on right now. But Ringer. Bill. It’s the NBA playoffs! This is an NBA Podcast from the guy who put podcasts on the map (talking about the NBA mostly)! Zach Lowe is putting out more content by himself while still writing his detailed analyses. Do you really want me to turn to ESPNs other pods to get through my workday? Do I really need to start listening to True Hoop and Lockdown? Am I going to have to subscribe to the (gulp) First Take pod? I’m begging you, please don’t do this to me!”
