Are Will and Alex the only people who like the Haka, appears so - keep in touch lads. Will lecturing us on kiwi culture, a little rich from someone so young.

I love listening to the pundits and past players, but this is the best counterpoint, giving me an even fuller and more rounded appreciation of what’s happening in the game week by week.

Thoughtful, entertaining and unshowy. Always worth listening.

Decent pod, thumbnail looks like it’s from 1960s Victor comic though.

These things are always going to be subjective, hence the mixed reviews, but from my perspective this is one of the best rugby podcasts. Professional, insightful, timely! Give it a go, I’d say!

I used to really enjoy this pod… but some of the presenters are just so constantly negative. So fed up that I’ve stopped following it

This is by far the worst podcast out there.

Why do you continually slag quins off especially Macus Smith.. now he’s not test match level? Really?

The Ruck is a podcast of The Times- a newspaper group that aspires to write for all of the UK: that’s England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland- right? Just checking- because unless you are only interested in English rugby, it’s largely irrelevant to the sports fans in other parts of the UK....Read full review »

Cannot stand Stephen Jones on this pod. His negative attitude and language towards certain players is unacceptable. Have an opinion by all means, but keep it professional and respectful. His views often contradict themselves, and his vision for the Champions Cup to be successful moving forward,...Read full review »

More Jamie George please. Refreshingly open and honest; he definitely will have a role in rugby and rugby / sports media after he finishes playing.

Pls get rid of that pompous, clueless moron. It will make the show more enjoyable all round.

Never heard so much hate for South African rugby. You boys need to get over it. You are the only pod that’s slating the winners on the Monday post tournament. So negative about everything. Also your views on how bad a tournament this was is unjustified, all you winge about it is the average...Read full review »

I’m not a South African supporter but this podcast about the World Cup final is so cynical. A team won and the negativity around them from you guys I believe is extremely disrespectful. How can you complain about cards and then congratulate the referee…. You’re finding excuses to take away the...Read full review »

Wow - so much bitterness

A great rugby podcast soiled by Mr Jones. His opinions often seem irrational and irresponsibly biased. His comments on the quarter finals this weekend were ludicrous (“DuPont was off his game”, refereeing has taken a massive step back”). And his loathing of South African rugby is palpable to...Read full review »

Always intelligent and engaging, the podcast has the perfect balance of opinion and positivity for the game - love it.

Really enjoying this podcast over the Rugby World Cup!

Should be renamed the English Times podcast. Used to be good but now going down the ‘bants’ route with stories about how much sleep the journalists had on their big nights out. Hilariously biased and one eyed. Still meanwhile writing off Wales in relation to the mighty Engerlund. Offensively...Read full review »

Jones is not only ignorant, arrogant, I’ll-informed, xenophobic and out of date, he frequently makes statements that are factually untrue and manages to twist any story about any team into a rant about England. Get back to propping up a bar in the valleys you obsolete cretin.
Piers1409 via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 09/25/23
Regular listener. England may appear currently to be a shambles but as long as they defeat Samoa in their final group match the benevolent draw means they could meet Australia, Fiji or Wales in the quarters. By then injuries and suspensions will have kicked in. None of these have the squad...Read full review »

What a load of dross! SB hasn’t got a clue, just 40 minutes of waffle and moaning and personal jibes. Get it if you don’t like a certain player or disagree with a head coach, but at least try to look at both sides rather than moan like a pair of miserable old goats! Won’t be listening to this...Read full review »

A kind description of Stephen Jones contribution to this podcast would be that he is consistently anti Irish. A more realistic view might be that his comments are consistently racist. After weeks upon weeks of anti Irish sentiment from SJ without any challenge from Will at any point. On a...Read full review »

One eyed commentary facilitated by the Stephen Jones fan club. Lots of more insightful rugby intelligence available elsewhere. Don’t waste your time here.

Great pod but I cannot abide listening to the cantankerous Stephen Jones so will be switching off.

Stephen Jones is the very worst of journalism - this is just a platform for him to vent his dislike of Marcus Smith. Abject.
law13lag13 via Apple Podcasts · Switzerland · 03/08/23
SJ waxes lyrically about Finn Russell as a player of skill and flair. Marcus Smith is such a player but he hates him saying it hasn’t worked. The reason is that he has Farrell next to him. Give him some flair 12 and 13 and it could be brilliant.

This was my first listen and having heard Jones trot out the vacuous sjw mantra “sexism, racism and misogyny” with a smug pomposity that is vomit inducing, it will be my last. To paraphrase some idiot; there is no place in the game for fatuous woke pronouncements.

Much better now it has an actual presenter with A bit more balance across the nations. The Will Kelleher bit live from the airport was very very odd though.

Listen to lots of these. This latest one after the final went along the lines of “let’s talk about the prem final” then talked about how sarries should’ve won for 15 minutes, how they’re favourites next year, and how Leicester need to rebuild next season as one player is leaving. No mention of...Read full review »

Could, and should, be so much better. It’s actually slightly embarrassing for the other contributors who are erudite, articulate and genuinely interesting.

If i could’ve given it a big fat ZERO i would have. Don’t worry you don’t have to change anything because i won’t be listening to it again, unless im having trouble sleeping. This would send anybody off to sleep before you had taken two 10mg Zopiclone.

Bad
Does Stephen Jones watch any rugby whatsoever? If he does, that makes it even worse

I’ve enjoyed The Ruck over a couple of years, but having taken a break from it (since that dreadful episode after an England win in the autumn series) I returned this week, and am sorry but I do not want to listen to (or read) Stephen Jones anymore. I am sure he is a lovely guy in real life, so...Read full review »

Jones is a complete clown and the worst sort of journalist- bigoted , blinkered and sensationalist.

Really good episode. The stats stuff was really interesting. More please. Requests - can we have much less spite and nonsense about Eddie Jones, except when it is newsworthy. Speculation about what he may or may not do about Farrell, Smith and Ford is very painful. When he has named a squad or...Read full review »

Great pod, insightful & detailed. Covering all the rugby news at the time. Very enjoyable when John Inverdale is on with his insights. He gets what the public think at the time. The second worst thing about "the ruck" is losing Lawrence Dalaglio, the worst thing is keeping Stephen Jones's. He is rude, over opinionated, repeatedly talks over the tip of others/interrupts, it's just bad manners and boorish. I used to enjoy the podcast, more Jones just robs...Read full review »

Stephen Jones has lost it. Opinions are fine but let’s have some balance. it is painful to listen to his barrage of bitter prejudice. Last weeks comments on England match were cringe worthy and to characterise Stuart Barnes observations as “drivel” was unforgivable. Loving the wider range of...Read full review »
