Ruined by politics and wokeness
As many have noted, the tone of the show changed rather drastically in the past few years. It used to be very science-focused and many times still is. However, they started getting more into politics and social issues, with Cara Santa Maria being the biggest (and primary) offender. The cast tends to skew heavily towards boilerplate left wing (MSNBC style) orthodoxy. Steve Novella does a decent job of being relatively neutral, but he often acquiesces to Santa Maria’s narratives of social justice. Imagine notorious far left news outlets Slate and Mother Jones as a living person - that is basically Santa Maria. Simply put, there are much better shows that discuss medical science, technology and astronomy, as well as shows much better at debunking pseudoscience. And most of those stay in their lane without interjecting political bias and woke nonsense. If you read the reviews that are less than 4 stars, you will see that the increased wokeness and political bias is what turned a lot of people off from this show. People that have listened to this show for more than 10 years quit because of how annoying and blatant this has become. A lot of the 5-star reviews offer nothing substantive other than fandom. Rebecca Watson was a fairly hardcore feminist with left leaning views, but she was aware enough to understand that the show was about logic, reason and maintaining an objective standard. Santa Maria, who replaced Watson, has thrown all of that away and is basically Rachel Maddow on a meth binge. To get an idea of the type of mindset that the show caters to, read ArtG1965’s review. Basically, anyone with criticism and r acknowledgment of the show’s change in tone, regarding politics and issues of social justice, is a Trump cultist wacko deplorable that is a mentally insane conspiracy loon.

Would be much more enjoyable if the panel weren't throwing in so many lame jokes and would keep more to the point. Also, the sound quality is not great with uneven levels throughout.Read full review »

As a physics student who spends about 90 minutes running from class to class in any given day, this podcast is a relief. It's witty, informative, and the logical choice for anyone who finds ghost or alien documentaries humorous.Read full review »

This podcast was the first I ever listened to and I think it's great! Current news items, both pop-cultural and science are discussed in-depth with a skeptic slant. Guests are interviewed, both skeptics and believers get time to talk about their ideas and thoughts in a format where noone is...Read full review »
