Isn’t there enough science…
To not have to cover hot button, political topics. I am swamped in my daily life by politics. I actually seek it out so this isn’t a lament. But sometimes I need to put that aside and do something else with my mind. Maybe science. Maybe I can breathe deeply from a sciency podcast. Well this isn’t the place. In between the discussions of atomic interferometers and cosmic ray shielding we’re instructed to ignore 500 million years of evolution, when life on earth first developed sexual reproduction. The example of “some humans do not have two arms” was trotted out to… I’m not sure. We can’t describe humans as having bilateral symmetry because certain individuals are not? Would we describe humans as “ a species with a count of heads between 1 and 2 and a count of arms between 0 and 4” because occasionally conjoined twins are born or a baby has a birth defect or an adult has a limb-severing accident. Moving on to the next podcast.
