Going big (versus playing small) from day one set Fortress Melbourne up for success | #605

Description
Right off the bat, today’s guest made a critical business decision. To launch Australia’s biggest eSports and gaming brand, he was going to go big, real big from day one. No pussy footing around. No waiting for this to happen in order for that to happen. Nope. He just went f*****g big (his words, not mine) from day one. It’s a game-on episode 605 of The (13 year-old, award-winning) Small Business Big Marketing podcast.  A little more about Fortress Melbourne’s Jon Satterley … OK, time to fess up. I know very little about the eSports and video games industry, despite it being bigger than Hollywood and the music industry combined. It’s f*****g huge!   Yeah, I grew up with an Atari in my bedroom, and to this day I have a sit down video game machine with about 40 games on it from the 80s … from Space Invaders to Pacman to Donkey Kong and everything in between.   But these days, top games are earning more than Hollywood blockbusters. Grand Theft Auto V has raked in North of $6 billion compared to James Cameron’s Avatar, the highest grossing movie ever at $2.8 billion!    And now there are dedicated arenas, like Toronto’s Esports Arena, that seats 7,000 screaming gamers, as they watch their heroes compete for prize pools in the millions of dollars.   So, to find out more about this relatively new but burgeoning entertainment industry, I contacted Jon Satterley, the co-founder of Fortress Melbourne. Fortress occupies 2,700 sq m inside Melbourne’s prestigious Emporium Shopping Mall, and has to be seen to be believed with gaming rooms, an eSports arena that can seat 1,000, it’s got bars, VIP booths, arcade alleys, even a room full of board games (old school!). So sit back as Jon takes us inside one of the world’s biggest entertainment industries, but also explains where the idea for Fortress came from, and why he and his business partner decided to go, and I quote, f*****g huge from day one.   Resources mentioned in this episode of your favorite marketing podcast 5 proven marketing ideas lead to Lawpath becoming Australia’s leading online legal platform | #604   Services every business owner needs that Timbo recommends How to generate organic traffic to your website(without spending anything on advertising) High converting website designers(They built this website - take this simple quiz and see where yours needs improving) DIY SEO training - The most cost-effective way to get on page 1 of Google(20% off with discount code Timbo20) Proven customer attraction strategy(and ridiculously cheap)    Businesses that made this podcast possible (please support them) DELL Technologies - Small business solutions Studio 1 Design - High converting website designers Fun Escapes - Proven customer attraction ideas Hawk Academy - DIY SEO training (discount code Timbo20 for 20% off)   Thanks for tuning in.
