Isla is a fantastic story teller with an amazing voice I could listen to all day. I had never heard of this story but have been gripped from start to end a sad tale which I’m glad is being brought up again to raise awareness, just sad this was never done for Sheila at the time.

I am so glad to hear your podcast describing Sheila Garvie in a different way than her portrayal from the 1960’s. You have compassionately explored all the proceedings, court case, relationships and following up on her life after Sheila’s prison sentence. Thank you for the interviews and...Read full review »

The bare facts of this story have been around since the late 1960s but Isla’s meticulous research, sharp scripting and powerful storytelling brings it all back to life. She puts the woman at the heart of this case at the centre of the story and underlines how Sheila was the true victim of the...Read full review »

I could listen to Isla Traquair’s soothing voice forever. Factual, deeply compassionate and absolutely compelling story telling.

To include the interview of details when Sheila was suffering from dementia was disappointing. The care worker (whose voice you disguised!) showed an appalling breach of trust. This wasn’t journalism but distasteful voyeurism. For those of us with relatives with dementia in care it was deeply...Read full review »

True compassion and first class narration and story telling by Isla. Sadly there are many victims in this case and if it happened present day I would hope that Sheila would be helped to leave the relationship safely. Coercive control has many faces and if left unchecked can have catastrophic...Read full review »

I have enjoyed both series of The Storyteller. Both gripping. Isla investigates this horrific crime in a sensitive & respectful way. The interviews are a window into Aberdeenshire life & she gets the best out of the people she speaks to. Sad it is over for another series & hoping for...Read full review »

Brilliantly told! I couldn’t believe this happened I’m the north east of Scotland. I had to ask my Granny if she remembered it and she did. She used to wait for the paper to come to their farm everyday to find out what had happened in the trial.

It’s not just the story and passion for journalism that is captivating by Isla Traquair. She creates a total cultural immersion which paints a glimpse into Scotland in the 1960s, provoking thoughts of culture, sexuality, ideals and technology that help deduce true crime and murder. She can’t...Read full review »

Totally gripped on another brilliant and compelling story told by Isla Traquair. I must admit I have to listen to each episode at least 5 times as her transcendent voice sends me in and out of consciousness before bed! But the story and the way she tells it is absolutely incredible!

I’m not sure how I came across this podcast but I so pleased I did. Although the subject matter is macabre the way the account of the murder unfolds has been fascinating. Find myself looking forward to Mondays for the next episode.

Interesting though sordid and sad story, but cannot understand choice of actor used to narrate Sheila’s words - her accent, I think is so wrong for the part! So wrong. I can’t listen anymore...

I listened to series 1 & was delighted when series 2 landed. The stories are interesting in themselves. But the way Isla tells it makes them more so. I love the sound of her voice. Isla could be reading the back of a medicine bottle & I wouldn’t care.

Absolutely brilliant. I am late to find this but this is a new fave!! Had to binge the series. The Scottish accent is a bonus too! I love it! It takes me back to the years I lived there. Lovely people and a lovely part of the UK! Great podcast
