Perfect mix of fiction and non fiction. Soothing and unsettling.

I adore this podcast so so much. Alison is such a great storyteller and the subject matter is exactly what I was after. Many of her stories told are ones that I have not heard before. My favourite episodes so far how been St. Patrick’s day (I have green wallpaper!!!), raining down flesh (so...Read full review »

The musical intro and ending are auditory dreams-so creepy but somehow soothing! I always think of those old timey automated doll creations as I listen to the music box at the beginning. The narrator continues the creepy/calm effect with her soft voice and wonderfully eerie stories!

Edit - Rating changed from 5 down to 2 as there is ever increasing, woke banging on about how racist, sexist, classist, all the -ist and -phobic words, newspaper articles from 200 years ago were. Yes, we know, times were different then. Mentioning it so often has really taken away my enjoyment of...Read full review »

Listening to someone read to you can be great, if done well. This was not. The host needs to work on delivery so it doesn’t come across as flat. Also, the unnecessary details that are included made the episode draggggg. I kept hitting the 15 second skip feature to get past the agonizingly long...Read full review »

I love Allyson’s storytelling and her voice is so soothing! the stories are so good but the way she tells them will lull you into a deep peaceful sleep. Her reading of Frankenstein is so good. The episode on the Catacombs in Paris is one of my faves.

I don’t usually leave reviews but I was so put off by the vile comment from user Sophie26773389. Sophie must be possessed by a demon to spew such vile filth! Personally I find Allison’s voice to be very soothing and hope in the future Allison can make an episode covering Sophie26773389’s eventual...Read full review »

She takes breaks. That’s ok. I do too but when’s she’s back - the episodes are sooo good. That’s why this podcast will be in my “favorites” forever and when there’s a new episode, it’s the first I listen to. Btw, the episode with pregnant woman & young child, living in the funeral home has...Read full review »

I was a big fan and would recommend frequently to friends. However the format has changed and I do not enjoy the Headlines episodes. It’s just not what I want in a podcast. If you rather story telling then earlier episodes are better.

This is a brilliant podcast; a great premise and clearly well researched .... but unfortunately the weird stilted narration of the newspaper is off-putting and unnatural sounding, like bad AI.

This was first time listening to your podcast. Definitely flaws thruought the podcast but @ the end when you had the audacity to say “I wanted to bring y’all something different, since it’s always men perpetrating the crimes o usually talk about” Oh My God!!! This combo is amazing and enjoyable. Host has a great voice and diction. Brilliant presentation. Background nosies/music not annoying and very appropriate enhancing the creepiness. The stories are all great. Like others I wish there were more consistent episodes, but I understand that that’s been addressed. What’s with the voice affectation? You can tell the difference especially in earlier episodes and ads. The content is usually good. I skip the stories she writes herself.

I really want to love this and was excited to see a decent amount of episodes to get through, BUT the narration (for me) is hard to listen to. The narrator’s voice is way to mono and it irks me to hear it obviously reading. I couldn’t tell that she broke from the story and went into ads. Story is pretty good, I have to turn it down so low that I can barely hear it to get through the sound effects without turning it off immediately. This is very easy to listen to and the there is a lot of detail in the stories. Some are fact and fiction combined that will inform you of stories you’ll already know but will make you rethink all you knew about them. It’s fascinating stuff that I’m having trouble putting down.
