Good guests, huge amount of content, if you have the time and interest
Took several years, but finally listened to the entire backlog by the end of 2021. As Ferriss himself admits, this podcast isn’t for everyone. The wide range of topics covered means you’ll likely want to skip some episodes. At beginning of most episodes, Ferriss says he’s teasing out the applicable lessons from each guest, distilling the best parts, but I find it ironic it sometimes takes a 2-hour interview to do so. While the long-form gives the audience more nuances and colors, be ready for some fluff as well. If you have the patience, there are some nuggets for sure. One criticism I have is, Ferriss often uses self deprecation to attempt to elevate a guest, but then turns around and talks about his own experiences and achievements (we get it, you know a lot of important people, you went to Princeton, and you learned Japanese and Mandarin exceptionally fast). Feels like humble bragging. As more people get into podcasting, I’m running low on time resource for these long-form interviews with random topics. There are podcasts where they interview successful people from very different fields but still maintain a consistent theme. I find my time better spent on those.
