“For a very long time know I've known the works of J. R. R. Tokien were special. One of my earliest memories about books is carying a copy paperback copy of "The Two Towers" to preschool--even though I could not yet read it.
Somehow I got to adulthood without reading The Hobbit or The Lord of the Rings. I initially found Peter Jackson's movies tedious. I only came to appreciate the movies through my wife's love of them, especially the portrail of Sam.
The Lord of the Rings LCG by FFG is what finally brought me around to the books, but it has been "The Tolkien Road" podcast that has guided me to a deeper appreciation of Tokien's work.
I have been reading a chapter of "The Fellowship of the Rings", then listening to the corresponding Tokien Road podcast. Both activities have provided a much needed escape (not to be confused with escapism!). If you want to deeply appreciate Tokien's work, I highly recommend pairing the Tokien Road with your own reading of The Lord of the Rings. John's insight is supurb.
