“I really could not see the point of Episode 1, Pluckley. The presenter has a walk around the woods, makes a few comments he seems to think are witty, sees and hears nothing of note - and the episode ends. To what purpose?”

“I grew up near Cheltenham so was immediately intrigued by this podcast. I’ve found it really eye opening and engaging even though this isn’t my usual sort of podcast! I particularly appreciated the use of the reinterpretation of the planets as the music for the show as well, really well produced.”

“Really enjoyed this second series. Manages to join together disparate threads encompassing the seemingly trivial and frighteningly important. Roll on Series Three.”
“These town podcasts are like mind maps linking together research and top tier interviews with Nick’s fantastic insights and humour. I’m from Cheltenham and didn’t know the half of it. Where to next?”

“We really enjoy these wonderful podcasts for their informative, occasionally amusing and quirky approach to our town, Cheltenham. The earlier series on East Grinstead was also fascinating and gave us a new angle on another town we thought we knew!”

“As someone who grew up in EG in the 60s and 70s and lived there until forsaking the south for the north west in my 20s, I have found the podcasts entertaining and fascinating. I wrote my dissertation at Liverpool on the geography of the Wealden iron industry and grew up alongside many interesting...”Read full review »

“Quite interesting to listen to, but some of the pronunciation of local places, from someone who is from the area, is hard to take! Standen, Keynes and evening Grin Stead. Who says that!?”

“I’ve lived in the East Grinstead area for over 50 years so I’d come across most of the topics covered but to have them all explored in such depth objectively, resisting the temptation to be sensationalist and from several different perspectives was both illuminating and refreshing.”

“Nick Hilton does a super job in bringing to life this peculiar little town of East Grinstead. Lovely storytelling and well crafted throughout, and featuring Jon Ronson!”

“Who knew East Grinstead was so interesting? Nick Hilton has delivered an fascinating sweeping panorama of a county town reputed for its tolerance for difference (reflected in the title and the tale from which it sprung) and, as logically follows, alternative spirituality. A thoroughly-researched...”Read full review »

“Nick Hilton has a wonderful eye for curious and interesting stories. He tells the story of East Grinstead by looking at its history, the characters that live there today, and his own experience of growing up just outside the town. Full of fascinating tangents and wry humour. I loved it!”
