Completely fascinating and extremely funny
I love this podcast! I’m a literature and genders studies teacher, not a linguist, but their conversations are always completely fascinating and so useful in understanding the way biases about our voices—that most personal of expressions—affect our lives every day. From gendered views of “vocal fry” and uptalk to the ways our brains discriminate against certain “foreign” accents (but not others), this is a great resource for anyone interested in language, gender, nationality, teaching or public speaking, or cultural norms around the way we talk. Highly recommended, it’s going in my regular rotation.
