Not your average listener
I am not the typical Fox devotee. I find a few shows interesting and used to watch Fox & Friends on Weekends as a compromise with my husbands beliefs. I’m a journalist by education, a Democrat by politics, a Midwestern southerner by birth, an avid sports fan since birth and a business owner as an adult. These are my biases, but I believe these make me an inquisitive, somewhat objective citizen. I want to believe people care about one another at their core. I want to think the truth prevails and it is easier to be honest than not. So Fox brings me Will Cain who seems rational, interested in truth, open to perspectives of others, a tad conservative, way too in love with Texas and a deep love and allegiance to family. I can get on board to entertaining your ideas especially after the last 6 years. But today when you read the Twitter feed much of what you read spoke directly to my feelings and I am not close to being a Trumper. I have worked in DC in politics so I know about picking a side and staying on it…no matter what. But during the Clinton campaign I witnessed the DNC blackball any candidate who dare entertain the thought of running against the anointed one. I’m thinking, “what is wrong with me? I’m a female Democrat who thought Bill Clinton was one of the best. Why can’t I get on board with promoting a Hilary presidency? “ Because I think for myself and it pisses me off when you try to tell me who my candidate should be and treat me like a traitor or idiot for not falling in line and blindly believing. This is where doubt crept in. During the campaign I found Trump great entertainment. Upon reading more about him, I found his thoughts on trade and business were consistent dating back to the 80’s. He panders to his base but didn’t seem to change his core beliefs. Very entertaining to watch how Republicans and the media would deal with the interloper. Fast forward, I am so disgusted with journalism and the lack of any attempt to be objective or transparent. I’m also annoyed by who the media people trot out as “experts”. Perspective is one thing, expertise is another level. Will, I think you come from a genuine place and I enjoy your Podcast a lot. I think we could have a cocktail and solve a lot of issues.
