This week we are discussing the second part of the Ballad of Song Birds and Snakes -- the most recent book in the Hunger Games series and a prequel detailing the life of Coriolanus Snow during the 10th Hunger Games. Coriolanus is a fraud. His once wealthy family are now struggling to stay afloat and with the promise of a scholarship that could change the trajectory of his life, Snow is ready to do what it takes to be the best mentor in the 10th games. After being assigned the girl from the 12th district, Lucy Gray Baird, Snow battles between good and evil. Lucy Gray representing the good in the world and Dr. Gaul, head game maker and a mentor to Snow himself, representing the vile. With Gaul proposing to Snow what do the Hunger Games really mean, Snow is left observing and trying to understand the world he lives in. This book explores the state of nature and seeks to provide more context into who Snow is and why he does what he does in the Hunger Games series.
