Ep. #97: The Grand Adventures (Pt. I) of Caed Nua

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.

This week's episode looks at a few off-screen adventures you send player companions on as part of your title of "Watcher of Caed Nua". In these adventures we see references to lore/stories otherwise not mentioned elsewhere in the game(s). Using these context clues and other pieces of lore, we examine what's going on and what it could mean for other narratives in Eora.

Ep. #96: "Six Degrees of Separation"

Ep. #96: "Six Degrees of Separation"

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.

This week's episode focuses on the story of several NPCs in the first Pillars of Eternity game, and narrows in on the connective tissue between their stories, backstories, relationships and side quests.

Random side note, I had recorded some thoughts on the Tango & Arkane closures but removed them just because I don't think it was necessary for me to do so. But I do think it's sad, and wonder what it means for the industry. If you'd like to strike up a conversation send me an email. Also, I'm sure we will talk about it on Avowedcast; perhaps I'll say something next week after thinking. Anyways, that was nothing that needed to be said, but there it is...

Ep. #94: Toamowhai (and other Seeker, Slayer, Survivor DLC Lore)

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.

This week's episode focuses on the "Seeker, Slayer Survivor" DLC for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. The focus is going to be on the 'god' of Toamowhai, but it will also include lore on the surrounding island (Kazuwari) and the Temple/Crucible you spend a lot of time at (Temple of Toamowhai), as well as the story of what's going on there.

The first portion of today's episode are spoiler-free, but be warned the second portion contain MAJOR SPOILERS for the DLC of this game, so keep that in mind moving forward.

    Ep. #93: Naasitaq and Sagani

    Ep. #93: Naasitaq and Sagani

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.

In this week's episode I focus on one of the nations within the world of Eora setting. It's one we hear about a lot, but don't actually have a single substantial source of lore for. There's a lot to be said, however, when you add it all up. After discussing Naasitaq and its culture, I redirect attention to a Pillars of Eternity (1) companion character, Sagani, and discuss her particular story.

    Ep. #92: The Great Reef

The World of Eora is a news & lore podcast about the fantasy setting created by Obsidian Entertainment for their cRPG series, Pillars of Eternity, and their upcoming action RPG: Avowed.

This week's episode is about "the Great Reef", a naturally occurring structure of the Deadfire Archipelago which may hold deeper secrets than we know. This lore, as far as I can tell, is only found in the Guidebook for Pillars, and not the game itself. So, this may be new info for a lot of us!

Great show!

I love this game but was always too overwhelmed to read all the different lore and world details. Listening to this podcast has been so awesome because it’s added so much background and information to world setting and game I love so much. It’s a must listen if you played these games and a must listen if you just love fantasy worlds!!

Great for new and veteran players!

If you have played the game then this is a must listen to put all the lore in context. If you haven’t played the game then this is a great resource to understand the basic world beforehand so when you do play you can revel in the details.

Great podcast! Everything I was hoping to find.

The nuanced and compelling fantasy world of The Pillars of Eternity games left me with a lot of questions after I finished my first play-through. I searched iTunes hoping to find a podcast to help satisfy my curiosity, and, bam, The World of Eora is *exactly* what I was looking for!

Host Eric does a fantastic job, both discussing the subject matter and respecting the experience of other players (including, no doubt, some very knowledge and opinionated fans of the games.) His earnest take is also very approachable; he relates ideas from the game to real world culture and history without ever seeming pretentious.

Eora is a fantasy world rich in lore and meaning, and I’m glad to be able to understand it better with Eric as my guide. Thanks for doing what you’re doing!
