I’m impressed that you took the suggestions to heart to pronounce nuclear properly. I think we often confuse it with the way the word nucleus is pronounced. Next up, the term “near miss” actually implies a collision. If you nearly miss something, you don’t, in fact, miss it. A better term would...Read full review »

Your guest/author of the book for this episode ruined it! Could not get past the first few minutes because he was whining about other movies and bragging about how great his turned out to be.

I like like this podcast and have learned some interesting things over the last year and a half. Listening to subject historians on certain things like this podcast is set up to do, gives it depth. I just get a little annoyed at the “know it all” attitude of the host. It’s almost like he’s...Read full review »

Generally good episodes, caveat being discussion of the Russian Revolution. Beevor’s view that Lenin’s answer to any question was terror is incredibly blinkered and inaccurate. In addition his focus on Bolshevik violence is quite laughable when you consider it was the middle of WW1 with millions...Read full review »

Enjoy the show. Am reading Business of War by David Parrott. Would be interested in hearing an interview with him regarding the use of mercenary forces during the early modern European period. Have a great day! Thanks!

If you like History (not just about war), this is an amazing one to listen. Excellent selection of guests and topics. Very good to understand the world we live in, always with a very rigorous perspective.

I can’t recommend this highly enough. Such an incredible range of historians on this podcast, I am still ploughing through the back catalogue and rarely skip a single one. The subject matter experts are all allowed to speak and tell their story, usually (but not always) based on the subject of a...Read full review »

Lost all respect within <10 seconds, when the host referred to “July 6th, 1944” as the date of Normandy landings. Unbelievable. Host’s voice had all the emotion and passion of a bored librarian reading a phone book. Utter waste of time - why listen to an idiot who can’t even bother to double...Read full review »

Without doubt one of the best podcasts available covering this expansive subject. As a result I’ve started my own journey into exploring more into the Pacific of WWII Thoroughly enjoyable!

Interesting mix of topics, but could someone please help James with his pronunciation of the word nuclear? Because of the subject matter it’s a word that comes up a lot here, and every time he says “Nuke-yuh-ler” it makes my teeth itch! Sorry to be a plonker about it. Maybe if he thinks...Read full review »

Most podcasts discuss historical events through the rigid wooden vernacular of contemporary Neo-Marxist Woke PC revisionism most commonly found within the privileged and protected ivory towers of academia. As such, they dare not discuss the often times fascinating intricacies of a historical...Read full review »

Some great thought provoking coverage of many topics, and many episodes are Hits. But need a rating by episode function because some episodes are awful (conscientious objection = big Miss).

Boring and banal. You will learn that 1 knowing, through broken code, what the other navy is planning, is good; 2 knowing that information is not useful unless communicated to your navy 3 people are needed to know and communicate 4 some people are male and some people are female. The host...Read full review »

I’ll prefix the following by saying that I’m making this review from a point of view of having 4 combat tours. The discussions on this show about the past are good. They are insightful and well produced. But when it comes to speculating on future and present conflict it falls short. The...Read full review »

Great content. Very well made podcast with excellent topics and guests. I love the deep dive into the topics and showing how much more there was to everything. So illuminating. Would recommend.

The Patron episode was painful - the casual, repeated tossing around of Lost Cause mythology and brusque slavery dismissals… yikes. You really should have pressed your guest on this - do better please.

My expectations were very high for warfare but many episodes shows just how the host and his guests are very liberal and let that intrude on the stories told here. Very shameful!!!

Eh
I like the subjects and the actual history is decent. Having said that the India-Pakistan episode was the worst interview I’ve ever heard on a history podcast. Full of falsehoods like the climate hoax. Fact is we name more hurricanes now then 100 years ago because we didn’t have radar then and...Read full review »

Great info but Controlled by hardcore liberals who take every opportunity to twist history around to attack the right. One thing that historians have to deal with often in ancient sources is political bias and they have to see through it to get to the truth. It’s a shame that we still have to...Read full review »

Please change this presenter. Such a great format and set of topics but why the patronising tone with the listener and the over blown bon homie with the guests. You can tell it makes some of them awkward. Unless this is aimed solely at children then I’ll take the above back.

I wish my bike rides to work were longer. This podcast frequently delivers a stunning amount of info & detail to stuff I thought I already knew about (in my lifetime) to stuff I really should have known about but had no clue….brilliantly informative & balanced. A history hit.

While I appreciate this is a warfare podcast. I dislike the historians diving into things that have nothing to do with that ie Climate Change, non objective view of Britain and commonwealth historical past. Stick to history, disappointed in the politics that springs up.

the episode on the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution is fascinating and sobering. Many single episodes are fascinating and sobering in the way that the Forgotten Wars Podcast is sobering when a whole season on the Boer Wars is taken as a whole.
