“I cannot recommend the Point North podcasts enough. If you like story (aka books, movies, tv shows, etc) you'll enjoy this. Alistair analyzes these stories so well, it's really entertaining and relaxing, but you'll improve your critical reading and thinking skills, too. So often entertainment leaves my mind numb and unfruitful, but these podcasts are super entertaining and also full of good food for thought. Haha they're kind of addicting though, so listen at your own risk :)
As it relates specifically to Tolkein's works, I get the sense that many modern readers fail to understand the nuances of Tolkien's work because they neglect his perspective. Alistair, however, really gets it. He seems (at least so far) to comprehensively understand not just the work itself, but the perspective from which Tolkien was approaching it, which is crucial to really understanding the work. Tolkien is by far my favorite author, but I don't just enjoy the podcast because I like The Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Alistair's perspective and analysis breathes new life into these works, and it's really fun to tune into that discussion.
