Top-notch analysis from two very smart & funny people.
How was the premier of this show 14 years ago, now? That fact alone just blows my mind, as it seems like yesterday that I immediately dove in and instantly loved Mad Men. I am basically the same age as Don and Betty’s son, Bobby, and my dad commuted into town on the train to Grand Central with many a Don Draper and Roger Sterling, enjoying drinks and playing poker in the club car, gossiping and laughing about their shared experiences in WW2, in the ad world, with women, and the rest. My point is, this is a world I both knew from the sidelines as a kid, and later, from the inside, as a producer and writer of radio ads on (where else?) Madison Avenue. So much of this show is in my blood, in my genes, and in my experience. And now, I’ve pretty much left the radio world behind and am working, ridiculously late in life, to make a mark as a freelance voice artist and actor. So the sheer CRAFT of Mad Men means more to me now than ever. I’ve been rewatching the series, and studying every frame with renewed interest. Roberta and Dan are somewhat new to creating what is essentially a radio program (I’m from 1958, so shoot me, I know it’s a “podcast” but that’s my perspective), yet right out of the gate, their insights are eye-opening and invaluable. I am grateful for what they do here to add even more to my enjoyment of this masterpiece of a series. Though the first few episodes are not as technically well produced as later ones, what’s great is that their voices and perspectives are none the less clear from the get go, and each episode only gets better. They really think about and work on each episode, and I love their insights! Roberta particularly knows the show from the inside out, as she and her sister Deborah were the creators and writers of the original Mad Men web blog, Basket of Kisses, which the show’s talent and creators came to embrace, and she gets backstage perspectives and interviews that are pure gold, and that are unavailable elsewhere. If you love Mad Men, you couldn’t find a better evolving perspective on the show than this podcast. Even if you think you know the show inside-out, I can guarantee you will find much to surprise and delight you here. LISTEN! It’s awesome.

I’m already big Mad Men re-watcher so I feel like I know the show in and out, but its a pleasure to hear these two intelligently debate and discuss the show to where I feel like I’m getting even more out of the original content. The pace and rapport of these hosts is pleasant and I’m finding...Read full review »

Great conversation and their different perspectives compliment each other. I love Mad Men for those heart-wrenching moments and Roberta makes you want to reevaluate the entire scene while Dan points out some obscure connection to history/culture and you think “how didn’t I notice that?” And “wow...Read full review »

I’ve tried a variety of MM podcasts, and this is easily my favorite. Just the right level of recap vs analysis, with some brief show audio included. The pace is snappy, Roberta and Dan stay on topic. They also enjoy a good-humored ability to occasionally disagree or have alternative/new...Read full review »
