Worth a listen, but can't find a tone
While well-acted and well-produced, This Sounds Serious isn't funny enough to work as a true crime parody and the plot isn't intricate enough to dive into. While it certainly mocks the conventions of true crime podcasts, oftentimes that playfulness vanishes for long, humorless stretches. The first season, I will say, paid off particularly well with a few plot twists and well-plotted ending. The second year languishes in a space that isn't funny enough to call a comedy yet not complicated enough to be a mystery.Read full review »
