Could be more explanatory
I like the concept, but I don't think the topics of the first week's episodes were very strong. The nuclear weapons episode was done better by Radiolab's Nukes episode and Dan Carlin's blitz episode on the destroyer of worlds. The Black Panther episode was ok. The North Korea hockey episode felt a little light. It was a nice slice-of-life piece, but I don't think I learned that much about the broader narrative of North Korea and South Korea. The Day Zero episode was the most interesting, though the BBC Inquiry did a pretty good version of that one. Still, this is a new podcast, so it might take some time to find its feet. I'd like to find a podcast that provides a more reflective take on the day's news than just providing the instant reaction to something that happened a few hours ago, or yesterday. The NYT Daily is great, but is slightly tilted more towards what happened yesterday. Between Today Explained and The Daily right now I'd probably pick the Daily.Read full review »

A decent daily news podcast which does a thorough deep dive of one topic each afternoon. The only problem (common to a lot of Vox things) is the too-frequent attempt to be “hip for millenials”.
