Loved season 4- well produced, great story telling

“When it all feel apart”, and how, is revealed at the end of the first episode. Several podcasters do this and I think it ruins the suspense and even interest in the season.

Intrigue! Amazing story of how the high and mighty are brought to justice.

Have listen to seasons one and five. I enjoyed the last season very much. The season about Tom Brown is very disconcerting and mystifying. I still can’t put my finger on the mother and what her story is. Of course, everyone feels bad when parent loses a child, but she broke down maybe once during...Read full review »

This is a wonderful collection of amazing stories from the talented story tellers at Texas Monthly. I don’t know what fairy blessed TM with their amazing journalists but I’ve never once been let down, from the stories they choose to the way it’s presented to the cadence of their voices. When I...Read full review »

First, Mr. Hollingsworth is a NATIONAL TREASURE! I am NOT from TX but have read many an article in TX Monthly and these features always blew me away. They were so well done, like the New Yorker with a softer “hometown” edge. The podcast is just the perfect extension to bring to the rest of the...Read full review »

I’ve enjoyed previous Texas Monthly podcasts and was looking forward to this one. However when I heard in the first episode the advertisement for silver bars that say ‘Don’t Tread on Me’, a symbol associated with the Capitol rioters, I couldn’t believe it. Definitely can’t support a podcast that...Read full review »

An amazing story. Very sad and remarkably told by Skip Hollingsworth. He has the best voice for this. What a gift to us.

Texas Monthly’s productions are the gold standard for investigative journalism. It is such a relief not to have to endure the chatty, laughing, hosts who seem to populate the podcast world. Everything about these productions is miles ahead of pretty much every other true crime podcast.

An intriguing story told in a meticulous, well laid out fashion. True crime that seems like fiction kept me engaged and treated from the go. TM always does a fantastic job of keeping me curious. Great job to the team who put ‘Erik’ together. I am not so patiently awaiting the next pod story you...Read full review »

Not one person on your team checked the way ya’ll say Holly…. You both mispronounced her name the entire time…. It’s Holly… not HOW-LEE, not Hal-EE. It’s HALL-E. You can’t even say her name correctly but you’re professional journalists? It’s good to know there’s no oversight.

I just found this podcast and I absolutely love it. Great topic and the voice of the speaker is perfect so many times I cannot listen to podcasts cause I don’t like the way the person sounds. This is a must listen!

Such a great true crime podcast. The reporting is excellent and the story has so many colorful twists and turns and Texas characters. A 5-star summer listen

I was genuinely shocked to see Charlie Sheen’s assistant popping up in here. Didn’t expect that turn of events! What a way to enter the world of private security and hear how the an overzealous team went so terribly wrong.

Imagine not listening to a podcast bc a phrase that was coined during the American Revolution was used in an ad. Public schools have failed us.

The Problem With Erik is a summer, true crime blockbuster worth binging! Hosts do an incredible job unfolding the chilling details of the Erik Maund case and the tale of wealth, betrayal, and murder surrounding it. Hit men! An affair! Informants! It has it all.

The show is amazing, I always binge when they release a new season, show is well made, ads… get over it! Or just stop being cheap and get the subscription so they don’t have to get outside advertising 🤷🏻‍♀️

This season has a cool, off-the-wall tone, and the story goes down so many fascinating rabbit holes. It deals with generational wealth and insidious entitlement, and how toxic masculinity and ego create easy pathways to the dehumanization of others. The story is bizarre and has a lot of twists...Read full review »

This podcast is tone deaf in so many ways. Are you kidding me with the “don’t tread on me” advertisements?? The real subject of this podcast should be the antiquated and harmful culture that underpins this case and breeds the type of behavior and outcomes in question. Yikes.

Great podcast, but extremely disappointed in the ad choices. The main ad is for some company that sells and buys gold and silver. I always enjoy this podcast series, but as a third generation Austinite, this current series released in July 2024 is just the atmosphere and voices and memories of vintage Austin. It speaks to exactly the secrets and stories that locals can nod to and have a sense kinship about from growing up...Read full review »

This a good story about false accusations & years until DNA is used to solve a crime. However, Brian’s empathy for a horrible criminal & justifying the SA/rape & murder of several women is plain wrong. I normally love Texas Monthly podcasts, but I felt like I spent 7 episodes listening to town gossip and the reporters chasing down rabbit holes. Well researched and well thought out episodes. Case is covered with respect and compassion. Hosts have a good voice and good flow. Very sad story. I feel so bad for that kid’s dad.

I’ve only made it through 1 episode of Season 3, so not sure if the jarring, jangling synth guitar plays throughout all seasons, but it’s awful. Otherwise, the story seems well-produced. Too bad about the “music”.
MarnieMae via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/13/24
All three seasons of this Texas Monthly investigative true crime podcast have been so well done. They’re thoughtful and sensitive, and their journalists leave room for nuance as they explore these stories. I’d really like more seasons.
tinytells via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/10/24
I love Texas Monthly, but can’t listen anymore because of all the paper bag crinkling and in episode three I think one of the cops was actually eating corn nuts during his interview. Maybe they left it in to demonstrate how the people involved in this case have no home training.

This unsolved crime is fascinating when put together in its totality and opens up so many more questions that were not addressed when Shane and Sally were murdered.
