I giddily gobbled this series up! I so hope there is a season two. Loved every minute.

Interviews from everyone involved made this fantastic. But it seems a series 2 was coming ? Please ?…

Must listen for any JD & NO fan! But a great listen for anyone interested in the history of music. In the words of another legendary Manchester band, “Please please please let me get what I want.” More episodes!!!

Brilliant insight into the bands and the people involved. Maxine establishes herself as a five star narrator. If you love Joy Division you’ll gain a real insight into this much loved band. Loved every episode.

A must for any fan. Waiting anxiously for season two.

There are interesting aspects about the early days of the band and label but (a) the music generally reinforced why, despite the odd good song, Joy Division were overrated, and (b) Maxine Peake unfortunately comes across as a gushy teenager on her first assignment. A more objective, less...Read full review »

A fascinating dive into how much influence two punk/new wave bands had on music today. Historic interviews are woven with modern love stories of the band and it is truly addicting. I can’t stop listening!

When I first started listening to New Order in the early 80s, they were shrouded in mystery. It’s fascinating to hear their story directly from them, and from those close to them. And it’s a great reminder how truly great they were—and are.

Fantastic to hear & be reminded about their journey as (two) bands. Loved it!

Well done guys

I’m a huge New Order fan and this podcast is like a weak Wikipedia page. It’s difficult to know who is speaking. Why is there an entire episode about the Hacienda and then it jumps back to Power, Corruption and Lies? Whole podcast is too broad stroked for me.

...for anyone who lived through the Joy Division and early New Order years, or anyone who has an appreciation for their excellent music.

An extremely superficial corporate puff piece about a band that is anything but. There are no surprises here. The conversations are highly edited. While enjoyable on some aspects. So much more could and should have been said. If you really want to know more about this band read their respective...Read full review »

If you’re a fan of both bands and have followed their careers over 40 years you’re probably not going to learn much. However it is great to get the story from the participants especially Stephen Morris who is very funny and to hear Tony Wilson again. It’s a bit of a hagiography but nonetheless...Read full review »

Having read, watched and listened to a lot about both bands over the years this is fantastic. Some great detail in there especially around the making of movement and that era. Roll on series 2

Fantastic. What a great insight into Joy Division, New Order, Factory, The Hacienda and 1980’s Manchester.

Very good listen. Loved new order since I was 12 but never got on with joy division, does my swede in live when that last 3 songs are JD numbers. Not that that’s got anything to do with these podcasts.

This episode has opened my eyes to the amazing talent of New Order / JD - incredible series, highly recommended.

Perfect blend of music, insight and history. One of the podcasts you stay in the car to listen to the end despite arriving home 10 minutes ago

Simply the best podcast I’ve ever heard. Extraordinary insight and brilliant articulation of the technical and artistic basis for this hugely influence genre, with a raw emotional wrap. Brilliance aside, all contributors speak with such endearing humility - I suggest they take a moment to...Read full review »

Some great books and films have covered the substance of the Joy Division & New Order stories. But this podcast’s combination of letting their music speak for itself & reminiscences from key players & high profile fans makes for a really entertaining series. The only time I’ve seen...Read full review »

Really brilliant podcast. Fascinating story and even as a fan there is much I didn’t know. It’s also very funny. Last episode this week - sob! I hope more episodes will happen about the lesser known later years.

This is entertaining, informative and contains little gems and nuggets that might be new even to long-time fans. I can’t believe it’s free to listen to. Reading the other reviews here, I think somebody ought to tell Matt JJ (Nov 2020) that it really is definitively too late. Who’s going to break...Read full review »

This is a wonderful podcast about a great couple of bands! I am enjoying the narrator immensely and I look forward to every chapter with intense Joy!

Always loved the Joy Division Story. If you've not heard it before this is a great listen. But it's not "definitive" as it says in the blurb. For example there's no mention of the band being called Stiff Kittens, or the Battle of the Bands incident getting them onto the bill....Read full review »

I say mainly because what’s with Hooky seeming to forget Gillian was in the band? They put out 5 of the best albums ever written in the 80s on Factory and Gillian was a part of them all. Other than that niggle I’m really enjoying it.

2020 is another year gone by we wont hear New Order play Lonesome Tonight, Way of Life, Run, Vicious Streak, Face Up live in concert - but at least this Podcast will tide us over in the meantime.
WO Queue via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 11/27/20
It now feels like a crime for any DJ to play a Joy Division song without some sort of context. It’s a bit like hanging a Rothko painting in the local boozer’s bog.

Moved to tears by this 40 years after the events. Brilliant podcast.

Even though this story has been told many times, this podcast brings more detail, interviews, and archive than ever before. Maxine Peak is a great choice of narrator too. When Ian Curtis died I was 19 and I remember being upset. 40 years on I was listening to episode 4 while out for a run and found myself in tears. So far, this is a great podcast with facts, heart and atmospheric sounds. Just makes me so sad that they’ve been acrimoniously estranged for so long. Come on lads, time to make up!
