Today, after 65 years, America's Unknown Child's name was finally restored. I want to thank all who have worked tirelessly since 1957 to give Joseph Augustus Zarelli his voice back. However, the search for justice continues. If you have any information on his homicide, please call 215-686-TIPS(8477). SOLVED: AMERICA'S UNKNOWN CHILD, "THE BOY IN THE BOX"
A murder mystery that has gripped Philadelphia for 65 years has been solved. America's unknown child, "The Boy in the Box," now has a name and criminal charges could still be filed. A child was found murdered, stuffed in a box and abandoned in Philadelphia decades ago. The body of the 4-to-6-year-old was found discarded along Susquehanna Road in a bassinet box in February 1957. The victim would eventually become known as "America's Unknown Child." On 11/28/2021, for the first time, the Philadelphia Police Department said they have uncovered the boy's name. Investigations confirmed police know the boy's name after years and years of DNA analysis, cross-referenced with genealogical information. The identity will be released next week.
