Can your child do something so wrong that you stop loving them?

The loss of a child is unarguably devastating, but what happens when a mother loses a child to the prison system? While the incarceration of a loved one is devastating for all members of a family, mothers in particular bear the responsibility and blame for their child’s behaviour. Hosted by Annalise Nielsen, this podcast explores the complicated feelings of grief, shame, and helplessness that mothers go through when their child is incarcerated. Unconditional demonstrates the incredible bond between mother and child that remains unshaken, even in the most extreme of circumstances.

EI Joe ,

I’m floored!

It’s so satisfying when someone tries to do a very specific thing and does it remarkably well. The stories are allowed to speak for themselves, the touches of music and editing are light, as is the narration. You can tell a lot of hard work goes into each short, focused, sad and beautiful episode.

Deeply touching, and prompts deep reflection

This is a very thoughtful podcast and makes me think a lot about people I know in these situations. It especially gives me some sense of the perspective of people suffering this way must have to live with. Brought me to tears a few times.
