“As someone with an undergrad and graduate degree in the mental health field, it’s upsetting to hear someone who does not have this background or certification, giving psychological advice. I would argue this is the true junk psychology. Especially upsetting is her reductive view of dealing with difficult people and situations: telling listeners to simply “handle your emotions better around them.” No details of what that means is provided, but the main issue is dismissing/invalidating/suppressing natural emotional responses, which exist for important reasons. This is especially disturbing because there are actually abusive/sociopathic/psychopathic people and circumstances, which require more than the victim simply “thinking differently” about it. This is just one example. Do better.”
