The Searchers podcast review
The two hosts are obviously intelligent. But how are you going to express that “The Searchers” was not a game changer or very different right after admitting you had never seen a John Wayne or John Ford movie before it. If you haven’t seen Stage Coach or Red River before it, how would they know it was not a game changer with out context of previous westerns that were themselves game changers. Before Stage Coach, westerns we’re basically B movie/serials. It’s fine if you don’t like “The Searchers” but don’t give an expert review on it if you have bias of modern sensibilities with out seeing any Western before it. It’s like someone never having seen a movie before 1990 complaining that Wizard of Oz looks dated or moves slow. Both these movies existed many many years before I was born but I understand things like pacing, rear projection, acting styles are going to be different for various reasons in the 30’s and 50’s. I found the podcast angering. I probably would enjoy their episodes of more modern movies though. Review just of episode not podcast.

This is a great new podcast which is well-planned, interesting, and full of enthusiasm. I love exploring the "greats" as many films on this list are some of my personal favourites. I like the idea of inviting guests to talk about particular aspects of the film, but not having their...Read full review »
