Over the course of a mid-Summer week in July 1995, more than 8,000 men and boys were systematically killed in a small Bosnian town called Srebrenica. 'Untold Killing' tells the little-known story of genocide and ethnic cleansing right in the heart of Europe through the voices of those who survived it. It’s a tale of betrayal, injustice, and what the world’s wilful ignorance towards ethnic persecution leads to.

A co-production from Message Heard and Remembering Srebrenica. Hosted by Aleksandra Bilić.

‘Untold Killing’ marks the 25th anniversary of the Srebrenica genocide.

    The Discovery

    The Discovery

In the late summer of 1992, a group of British journalists travelled to the lions’ den of the Bosnian War to investigate claims of brutal concentration camps filled with thousands of civilians. What they found there, during the course of just one day, confirmed their worst fears. And showed the world the true nature of a war that was just getting started.

    The Takeover

    The Takeover

Before thousands of non-Serbs ended up detained in concentration camps, their town and their local community became so divided that friends and neighbours came to stand on opposing sides of a brutal ethnic conflict. This disintegration took just a couple of years - thanks to propaganda, fearmongering and a well-organised coup.

Thank you for this podcast! #NeverAgain

I had just been born in 1990, so I don’t remember much, this helped me put together what we lived through. Incredibly important work, may the USA take notes, and stop moving towards f@cism. This podcast has helped me move through the never ending grieving process and mourn the profound losses of life and teach my children what hatred can do, so it’s not repeated in the USA, to a point of no return. The next few years will be especially rocky, be prepared with community defense and establish mutual aid networks now.

Heartbreaking and important

Never forget. As the events in the Ukraini unfold I was reminded of the 90s and our “peace and prosperity “ I’m the United States. As a revert Muslim 3 years I was completely unaware of the situation that happened in Sbvrneca as I was like many other Americans shielded from this genocide until much later. Listening to the stories of my brothers and sisters in the region across the world my heart is broken. We are so quick to say never again when it comes to Israeli sémitism and over and over have we allowed it to happen from Bosnia to Rwanda and Syria. So many to list. Alexander tells a heartbreaking story that many are unaware of. Please listen to this podcast no matter who you are. It’s such an important story that needs to be told and shared. Beautiful tapestry of storytelling

As you see the only negative review is from a fascist history denier. (Like holocaust deniers) who judge a people as a whole as liars. This is not a lie. Do the research yourself.

Heavy.

As a child in Turkey, I was hearing about the war in Bosnia. I remember something bad happening there but couldn't grasp it. Now, as I listened what happened, my heart aches.
These shouldn't be forgotten, not for animosity or hatred, but to realize how precious is the life and living together.
The other thing that this podcast urges me use to go and see Bosnia's beautiful nature and people myself.
