Is It Criminal For American Restaurants to Not Sell American Wine?
In response to a ton of listener feedback, Adam, Joanna, and Zach weigh on a recent slew of social media posts from a famous sommelier-turned-winemaker who claims that the American restaurant industry is being criminal for not better supporting American wine...and a lot of other noise. They have thoughts. Why Do We Care About Sustainability in Wine, and Not in Spirits?
Adam, Joanna, and Zach ponder why sustainability is such a central part of the conversation around wine, from vineyard practices to alternative packaging, while the same considerations almost never come into the broader conversation around spirits. Do "Functional Beverages" Actually Function?
Adam, Joanna, and Zach discuss the curious case of the rise of functional beverages - drinks that rely on adaptogens, nootropics, and other buzzy ingredients to create an aura of healthfulness and safe stimulation, despite many of the ingredients being untested and lightly studied. Then, they try two examples from category leader Kin Euphorics. Is Napa's Cult Wine Bubble Close to Popping?
Adam, Joanna, and Zach respond to a listener question about recent and significant increases in the prices of several cult Napa Valley wines: will these increases alienate even the very wealthy who form the core audience for these wines, or is the prestige priceless for that set? Great industry pod
Very diverse range of subject matter that really delves into the nuance of a particular topic.
Lost me with latest episode
Happy they are addressing this issue, but kind of a wasted opportunity to have a substantive conversation about the topic vs. condemning one single person’s point of view. Very clearly have very strong feelings against this person, so why bother with such a negative podcast? Uplift the industry or dig in deeper and ask more questions rather than taking the time to waste our time with what you think we should feel. We are more intelligent than this and deserve a more meaningful format for this conversation, especially with wine sales falling substantially along with the demand for the sommelier. That being said, I’ll just stop listening.
Foul language is a turnoff
Information wise I give it 4 stars, maybe 5, topics could be better. Sometimes it just sounds like a lot of insider complaining about the industry. And the obscene language could be omitted, and their talking points would sound much more professional. I get it that they want to sound edgy but it is over the top. And it also narrows their audience, because not everyone is listening to it on headphones.
