Too immersed in an ethos of politics
I came across this podcast when I was looking for liberal commentary on the SCOTUS Masterpiece Cakeshop decision. Even though I disagree with the hosts of this podcast most of the time, I found them to be the most fair liberal commentary I’ve heard. However, when two hosts in the recent episode “The Illiberal Right” blamed Christianity for Republicans’ unforgiving track record, even to say that those who are more immersed in a Christian ethos are more likely not to forgive, I realized that the group’s ignorance of anything not directly political had reached a critical level that projected onto their opponent their own flaws. Being more immersed in a Christian ethos does not make one more political, unforgiving, spiteful, and unintelligent; it makes you apolitical, merciful, patient, and prudent. In short, it makes St. Theresa of Calcutta, St. John Paul II, Bishop Barron, Pier Giorgio Frassati, and Dorothy Day, not Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump. To end up like the latter, one must instead immerse themselves in a secular political ethos, not unlike the hosts of this show. Thanks for the excellent reporting on the refugee crisis at our southern border but I’ve now unsubscribed.

Had high hopes but was kinda let down by this new podcast. It’s just not there yet. Maybe one day. Keep trying.

It can't be understated how valuable it is to listen to smart people discuss issues in significant depth. I'm with Ezra: the longer the better. There are plenty of shorter options. The show tends to wander quite a bit and the swearing seems somewhat unprofessional for a non-comedy. ...Read full review »
