Good podcast
As a longtime feminist myself, I find this podcast to be both thought-provoking and reassuring at the same time. It's helpful to know that there are other women struggling with how to explain things/make others understand our experiences. However, I was disappointed with the episode about changing your last name. I found the tone to be slightly judgmental. I am married and am in the midst of deciding if I want to change my last name. I come from a family where we all shared one name, and it always made me happy when I heard people refer to us as (for example) The Smiths. We were one singular and unbreakable unit. We had a name. I want that for my future family. I can get sad and frustrated that women are expected to change their last names, and I wish there were a more elegant solution. Of course, I could have made it an important ask of my husband to agree to take my last name, but I find that equally unfair. He doesn't mind if I keep my name, though I do think he would prefer for us to share one name. If I do change my last name, it is because of my love for having one singular family name. Families, to me, are exclusive tribes. We are bonded for life. I feel that way with my siblings and parents still, but I am excited to start my own tribe that is unique to me and my new husband. I don't think this perspective was adequately represented. I don't think (and I know the makers of this podcast don't either) that all feminists have to make the same choices. But, I wish they had given airtime to people like me.Read full review »
