I’m not sure how I would have articulated this before listening to the pod, but I left academia behind because the abstract pessimism of thinkers like Foucault and Derrida seemed to have no application to the social justice movement work and political projects I became interested in. But in this...Read full review »

A lot of the discussion goes right over my head, but I love listening to the interplay between the group. Five stars!

Already in school you learn to not only say why sth is bad but to give arguments for your opinion. Those guys failed on doing so. Just listen into Episode 80 where they basically curse Peter Singer - without even explaining in a philosophical - or any other - way what‘s so incredibly wrong about...Read full review »

I have very little background and I’m mostly autodidacticized!! I’m sure i don’t get much of this but i do find the conversation charming. I love the “yo’s” and Lily, and the insider philosophy fun. I’d happily pick up the tab to hang out with them.

I have more than my share of quibbles, but this is such a fun and informative way to engage with a whole range of ideas, thinkers, and movements. Keep it up!

I was impressed by the episode on Frantz fanon’s “black skin white masks”. I hope the other episodes are as thoughtful. Hard to come by these days. There isn’t a bunch of mindless debates and talks about social media (🤢🤮)

There are seemingly a lot of philosphy podcasts out there. This one really nails that sweet spot where you can feel like you are sitting with a small group of the brightest philosophy grad students or profs, and they are totally willing to let you listen in as they discuss every strange and...Read full review »

The one guy says “yo” so much…I just couldn’t do much. Good topics covered in the usual official institutional tone and lexicon. Lots of concept and name dropping, but they’re on some of the right topics. Just can’t get past the yo-yos

learning so much! Lillian is the best, such valuable insights all the time

An amazing and accessible podcast. Really love how you guys dive under the surface of concepts and get into the various philosophical ideas in a manner that is both deep and that reflects the various personalities of the interviewers. Ps Will, you say “yo” an insane amount

A very strange mix of three men and one very talkative, very opinionated woman. Why do the men find everything she says so brilliant, so funny that it sends them into hysterical peals of laughter? Not to focus only on Lillian but she’s the most theory-bound, jargon-filled, dogmatic leftist I...Read full review »

this delightful and dynamic panel of voices provide an accessible, yet thorough, leftist discourse on philosophical materials. also, refreshingly, not 2-5 white dudes sucking the life and joy out of conversations about thought and socialism.. ¯\_( ☭_☭)_/¯ and i think that’s nice. ⊂ .മ◡മ. ⊃

A dialectical exploration of dialectics. Love it. Today’s world, and podcasts in particular, are so dominated by rhetoric and sophistry.

This show is amazing. Would super strongly recommend it to anyone with a curiosity to understand what are the ideas that shape our minds and our world today. Incredibly insightful and entertaining to listen to, super engaging and complete

Full admission: I have to listen to each episode twice to feel like I’ve captured maybe 50% of the points being made as a noob to philosophy - and I’m slowly learning / but every episode is interesting and amusing. Necessary to read the content or about topics being discussed to get full context...Read full review »

“Reason should be investigating possibilities…”. Yes it should. Anytime you’re ready. Don’t let me hold you back... If you’re happy to hear leftists banging on about leftists needing to provide a viable alternative to the status quo without providing a whiff of a viable alternative to the status...Read full review »

If you’re into philosophy and consider yourself a member of the left, there’s no better group of folks—witty, charming, deeply thoughtful—to enlighten you and bring new perspectives in that arena. One thing that could be really helpful is *posting the texts themselves* so listeners can read...Read full review »

As someone who has some philosophical background but not so much in the leftist tradition I have really enjoyed learning more through this podcast! Would recommend for sure

This podcast is great. As someone who is very interested in social and political philosophies, but not well versed in them, I love being able to learn from the hosts’ thoughtful explications, criticisms, and collaborative insights.

A fun podcast made by people who actually enjoy each other’s company that also manages to provide thoughtful and approachable discussions of major figures from the history of philosophy? This is that! And it is great at being that. Highly recommended.

This podcast is a really good run through of various ideas in left philosophy, pitched at an accessible level but without avoiding going into interesting detail. Excited to see how it goes!
