“I love Esther but her feedback on this episode lacked significant antiracism and understanding about how white privilege is at play in this relationship. Her feedback was valid but also shaming in some ways to the Iranian woman. This couple needs to talk about privilege and how it’s at play in their relationship, and it’s not the woman’s responsibility to accept her partners privilege and feel gratitude for it. The woman was downtrodden at the end, having been loaded up further with responsibility to “accept her reality” rather than truly being heard and being given tools to approach a white world with greater confidence and resilience.”
