Episode 40: Challenging Coaching: Do we have to have goals in coaching?
Listen now
Description
Coaching is so often seen as an intervention that supports the achievement of goals, and in this podcast we would like to challenge this belief. We will explore the idea that, whilst coaching is often concerned with goals, there is some much richer territory available to us in the coaching room.    A great deal of coaching training tends to start with goals and helping move coachees towards them and organisations tend to have a focus on goal achievement when commissioning coaching. In the coaching room, the coachee may bring a goal to coaching and may want to be coached around creating a plan to achieve the goal, but we have an opportunity as coaches to explore the ‘WHY?’ that sits behind the goal .    Beyond this the coaching space will hopefully evolve into a transformative space where new thinking can happen about deeper aspects of the coachee’s world.    If you think you need a goal to come to coaching you could be missing out on some powerful personal work. And if you’re a coach who would like to help people make bigger changes in their life, listen in as we explore this topic and discuss where we think the power of coaching truly sits.     Enjoy the podcast?
