“On the White House Correspondents’ Dinner thing, you guys mentioned the thing about Obama and the “most perfect presidency ever”. I am frequently reminded - and this is one of those times - when there was an op-ed in one of the major papers (can’t remember which one), lamenting that beginning in 2009, comedy would suffer for the next 4-8 years.
The premise was that many comedians make their bones by telling jokes about politics and politicians. And Obama (who had barely been inaugurated) was going to be so flawless, so awesome and perfect as a president and in his policies, there would be nothing to laugh about…nothing to make fun of. No ineptitude, malfeasance or gaffes of any kind - thus denying the comedy world its very lifeblood. The poor comedians would have to struggle for other things to tell jokes about.”
