dangerously bigoted and inaccurate at the end
I don’t know much about Byzantine history, so I can’t judge the accuracy of much of this. However, the claim that Ancient Greek thought made its way to Western Europe through Byzantium despite the rise of Islam is manifestly false. Any familiarity with medieval or early modern Western European philosophers reveals the importance of people like Avarroes and Avicenna in passing Ancient Greek thought onto the modern world and they are only the most famous among a large contingent. If you are interested check out the History of Philosophy Without Any Gaps. The last episode seems to be an effort to suggest that if only the Christian west had united with the Russian empire against Islam everything would be wonderful now. This is not only grossly islamophobic and ahistorical, but it’s bizarrely pro-Russian. It makes me wonder if it’s a little part of Putin’s misinformation wars against the West...who’s funding this?

More reviews of 12 Byzantine Rulers
In the Western World, the Byzantine Empire has been much malined. However, this podcast has given me the opportunity to look at the history of the Roman Empire (Byzantine) in a fresh way.

Lars has presented a very deep and confusing subject in an imminantly understandable way. These podcasts are perfect in length and depth.
