RADICAL PERSONALISM RETREAT (part 4): Issues and Tissues between Guru and Disciple - Sept 28, 2024
Listen now
Description
In this discussion, we explore the guru-disciple relationship both as a universal principle (guru is everywhere) as well as the localized agent—the guru as a servant of the disciple's faith and potential. The guru acts as a facilitator of the disciple's journey, accompanying them and listening with them to what Krishna wishes to reveal. We also reflect on the dangers of over-expectation and over-idealization, not just from disciple to guru, but also from guru to disciple. Over-idealizing leads to dehumanization, where we either elevate or diminish someone beyond who they truly are, limiting their potential to fully express themselves. Additionally, we examine how surrender, when misunderstood, can sometimes become a way of avoiding personal responsibility. Through practical examples and exercises, we dive deep into these dynamics of spiritual relationship between disciple and guru.
