Bunce is one of the best around… but
Steve Bunce is one of the most informed individuals on his subject and I find his analysis, knowledge and take on all subjects relating to boxing fascinating. I actually find that comes across stronger in his TV and radio work, as a summariser, than while leading the pod. However, two things real irk me relating to the pod. First, he has become very pally with many of his interview subjects, referring to them as “brother” way too often, while apologising for broaching even vaguely controversial subjects. Barry Jones and Richie Woodhall are really valuable in that regard. Furthermore, Bunce has begun to adopt a foreign accent while speaking with individuals heralding from overseas. I haven’t yet been able to understand why and perhaps it is unintentional, but at best it comes across as extremely patronising, and at worst pretty offensive. I am sticking by the pod for now, but have slowly become a Boxing News Opening Bell convert.

If you are a boxing fan then this is one that you have to listen to. Would like it if they could do a few more shows on some of the greats, although I am nostalgic so might be for everyone. I’ll f you can do one I would like to hear one on my boxing hero Lennox Lewis.
