“Quality ghost story podcasts are hard to find. Aside from Spooked, I was having trouble finding one that wasn’t poorly produced and/or embarrassing. I found this one on a list of shows to check out, and when I downloaded the first episode, I was excited by how polished it sounded. The narrators were authentic, the backing sound effects and music was on-point, and everything seemed to be going perfectly. I thought I’d finally found another high-quality spooky show to enjoy.
But then it took a I’ve when I realized they were adding acting to each episode. The decision to pair the narration with dramatic reenactments using voice actors is a bad one. Every time the person telling the story is interrupted by silly reenactments by the actors, it takes me straight out of it. The reenactments do next to nothing to enhance the quality of the storytelling, and the show would be substantially better if they’d leave those reenactments for the visual companion to this show.
That said, I still listened to every episode and found it enjoyable overall, but those goofy reenactments detract significantly from an otherwise well-produced show.”
